Performance of the government of El Salvador – [The New York Times]

The The New York Times published the article “Lost in the ‘Death Realm’ of El Salvador’s Prisons”, by journalist Anne Correal, in which she presents severe criticism of the current government of Salvadoran president, Mr. Nayib Bukele, for alleged irregularities in that country’s prison system.

The positions adopted by the columnist would be valid if there were an explicit and emphatic evaluation of the government’s public security policy, highlighting the successes of that administration, perhaps the most successful in tackling crime in the world, to the point that Mr. Bukele has over 80% approval ratings from the citizens of that Central American country.

As a subscriber, I sent a letter to the newspaper, expressing my indignation at the inappropriate bias of the article in question.

 

Dear Sir,

As a subscriber to The NY Times, I express my regret and indignation at the article against the government of El Salvador and President Bukele.

Mr. Bukele's performance in Public Security is the best in the world.

If there are flaws, the solution is to correct them, but his policy of fighting crime must continue as well.

All good and honest citizens desire and approve of Mr. Bukele's performance.

Desempenho do governo de El Salvador

O jornal The New York Times publicou o artigo “Lost in the ‘Death Realm’ of El Salvador’s Prisons”, da jornalista Anne Correal, no qual apresenta severa crítica ao atual governo do presidente savadorenho, Sr. Nayib Bukele, por supostas irregularidades no sistema prisional daquele país.

As posições adotadas pela articulista Correal seriam válidas se houvesse uma explícita e enfática avaliação da política de segurança pública do governo, com destaque pelos êxitos daquela gestão, talvez o mais bem-sucedido enfrentamento da criminalidade em todo o mundo, a tal ponto que o Sr. Bukele conta com mais 80% de aprovação dos cidadãos daquele país da América Central.

Como assinante, enviei correspondência ao jornal, evidenciando minha indignação com o viés desajustado da matéria em questão.

 

Prezado Senhor,

Como assinante do The NY Times, expresso meu pesar e indignação com o artigo contra o governo de El Salvador e o Presidente Bukele.

A atuação do Sr. Bukele na Segurança Pública é a melhor do mundo.

Se há falhas, a solução é corrigi-las, mas sua política de combate ao crime deve continuar.

Todos os cidadãos de bem e honestos desejam e aprovam a atuação do Sr. Bukele.
